Before the first GPU job, someone has to accept the infrastructure.
The most useful infrastructure question may be very specific: who will accept this result, on this site, under these conditions?
Bessemer’s Roadmap: The AI data center stack was published on 19 May 2026 by Lindsey Li, Brielee Lu, Josh Hechtman and David Cowan. It presents six areas of investor interest and illustrates them with existing companies, including portfolio companies. That perspective is the source boundary here.
Three ways to turn a stack into an investigation
The following connections are Bharat in Beta’s editorial reading. They are questions to take to a counterparty, rather than a ranking of technologies or evidence of an unserved market.
01Find the person who can accept the result
A developer deciding on a site, an engineer accepting equipment, an operator responding to an alert and a utility planner choosing an upgrade do different jobs. A useful first interview asks what that person can approve, what evidence they need and which decisions belong to someone else. A tool can make a report faster without changing the decision that holds up the project.
02Compare at the boundary the buyer pays for
Choose an outcome the counterparty will accept: usable power service, inspected construction work, a completed compute job or a recoverable component. Then include setup, rejected output, maintenance and exceptions in the comparison. A component demonstration can be encouraging while the complete service still fails the buyer’s test. The starting points below are proposed experiments, not claims that a particular technology has passed them.
03Earn the move from advice to action
For a proposed controls business, a read-only replay is a useful early test. Can the team reproduce a recommendation, see which inputs were missing and identify who would have acted? Only then ask whether live control is justified and what review, fallback and responsibility it would require. A planning model, a recommendation and an automated equipment command should not share one undifferentiated success metric.
Take the workflow to India, then test the assumptions
The roadmap uses many US market and institutional examples. An India investigation should begin with a named developer, utility, contractor or facility team and the records that team actually uses. Which approval or equipment qualification governs the first project? Who controls the relevant operational data? Who can accept an outside recommendation? Those answers need local primary evidence.
A founder could compare an Indian customer’s maintenance handoff or site-diligence process without assuming that US contract structures, electricity prices, workforce constraints or filing procedures carry over. An Indian supplier serving an overseas project would instead need to test the overseas buyer’s specification and support needs. Neither path establishes a geographic advantage by itself.
Six layers, with their original occurrences intact
The catalogue preserves six parent areas and twenty-seven nested prompts or investment criteria. A parent and its children are one source’s hierarchy, not independent confirmations of demand. The question under each group below is editorial; the linked entries retain their original summaries, publication date and source link.
01Permitting and site selection
A developer or diligence team: which unresolved fact changes a site decision, and can a preparation tool expose it early enough?
02Power generation
A facility developer and operating partner: who accepts the power service and carries the maintenance and performance obligations?
03Transmission, power conversion, and the middle mile of power
An equipment buyer or grid engineer: is the first intervention procurement, a conversion redesign or a change to an existing corridor?
04Software and orchestration
A facility operator, compute customer or utility team: which specific decision can better information change, and who retains authority?
05Construction, maintenance, and labor
A construction manager, maintenance lead or equipment owner: which accepted work package justifies a separately testable product?
06Cooling technologies
A facility engineer: what improves useful compute under matched conditions after integration and servicing are included?
Browse all 33 source entriesWhat this pass adds
Twenty-two entries have compact investigation notes. Eleven remain source-only because they aggregate more specific entries or repeat an outcome or investment criterion. Those entries are retained in the groups above. Existing company examples explain the investor’s context; they are not new requests to copy those companies.
No market forecasts, equipment performance figures, current legal requirements or environmental savings are asserted here. The reading links to the original article without reproducing its body, diagrams or images. Each proposed starting point still needs a willing counterparty and an acceptance test.
