A field guide to what India could build next.

Bharat in Beta is an independent, India-first publication with a global lens. Its first product, the Opportunity Atlas, brings ideas and problem statements scattered across reports, essays, public challenges and investor writing into one place, so more people can discover a problem worth exploring and learn where to go next.

The hope is larger than collecting links. Bharat in Beta aims to become a useful home for Indian startup ecosystem education, and to help some readers turn what they find here into research, experiments and eventually new companies.

How to read the atlas

Every entry leads with its source and the date attached to that source. Titles retain the original source heading where it is usable, with all-caps headings changed to sentence case for readability. Descriptions are concise Atlas summaries unless an excerpt is explicitly labelled. Follow the source link for the full wording and context.

Themes, customer types, geographies, approaches and AI labels are Atlas classifications made for browsing. Richer pages may add analysis, questions and resources. Those editorial layers are separate from what the original source said.

When the same idea appears in several sources, every occurrence stays visible. Repetition can show that several sources are paying attention to a subject. It does not prove customer demand, market size or that a proposed solution will work.

Dates and the archive

Date labels keep their recorded meaning. A publication date, challenge launch, deadline, edition, event date and page update are different things, and the Atlas does not present one as another. Ideas with no source occurrence in the past three years sit outside the default view. Readers can include the archive to explore them.

India first, open to the world

India is the starting point for interpretation: who experiences a problem, who might pay, and how affordability, language, trust, infrastructure and distribution affect what could work. Global ideas remain useful when they offer a comparison, a transferable lesson or a prompt that deserves adaptation.

The collection includes common and overlooked problems, AI and non-AI approaches, and businesses built through software, services and physical products. It is for aspiring founders, experienced builders, operators, investors and anyone curious about how companies begin.

Where this could go

Over time, ideas could connect to theme essays, books and podcasts, learning paths, accelerators, VC firms and yearly collections. An idea matcher could connect a reader's experience and interests to useful corners of the Atlas. The gallery comes first, and each addition should make the next step clearer.

Sources, corrections and rights

Bharat in Beta publishes its own summaries and classifications, then credits and links to the original work. It does not reproduce source bodies, images, logos, charts, tables or datasets as a library. Attribution does not imply that a publisher endorses the Atlas.

If an entry misstates a source, uses the wrong date or raises a rights concern, please report a correction or rights concern so it can be reviewed and corrected.
