Indigenous autonomous systems

The idea
Build drones, unmanned ground vehicles, and unmanned surface vessels with local control networks, domestic iteration, and designs suited to India’s field conditions.
Why this is interesting
- General Catalyst argues for domestically built drones and unmanned vehicles designed for Indian field conditions and improved through local iteration. The main buyers are defence and security agencies, whose procurement routes, trials and qualification requirements shape the business as much as the technology.
- A venture thesis describes where an investor sees possibility. It does not by itself identify a narrow buyer, an entry wedge or evidence of demand.
Possible starting points
Subsystem supplier
Supply one component, such as navigation, communication or power, to existing integrators rather than building a complete platform.
Civil use alongside defence
Prove a platform in a civil application, such as infrastructure inspection or disaster response, while pursuing defence trials.
Questions to answer
- Which procurement route applies to the first customer, and how long can the company fund itself before an order arrives?
- Which parts must be sourced domestically, and can that supply chain deliver at the volume required?
