Buying the insurance

Source

The idea

Choosing suitable cover is repeatedly deferred; renewals are rushed and policy information is fragmented across documents and intermediaries. Source-proposed direction: Buyer-side comparison, policy understanding and renewal coordination.

Why this is interesting

  • Insurance is usually bought infrequently and under time pressure, so buyers have little opportunity to build confidence through repetition.
  • Comparison is only part of the job. The harder work may be translating exclusions, maintaining records and returning before renewal decisions become urgent.
  • A buyer-side service must earn trust without quietly becoming another sales channel for the products it compares.

Possible starting points

01

Policy understanding layer

Turn a policy into plain-language cover, exclusions, renewal dates and questions to ask the seller.

02

Household insurance record

Keep policies, nominees, premiums and renewal decisions together for the people who manage family finances.

03

Buyer-side review service

Help one customer segment compare options without depending on commission from the chosen insurer.

Questions to answer

  1. Which insurance decision creates the most confusion or costly delay?
  2. Who will pay for advice that is independent of product commissions?
  3. What information can be standardized across insurers without hiding important differences?
