New Operating Systems for the Physical World

The idea
Create operating systems that coordinate AI agents, robots, and human field workers across construction, maintenance, fleets, and other labor-heavy industries.
Why this is interesting
- Coordinating a person, an agent and a robot requires an observable handoff. A dispatch demonstration does not show that an interrupted job can be recovered.
- YC proposes an operating layer across physical work. Start with one site and existing safety procedures rather than assume recordings confer permission to automate.
Possible starting points
Job-state reconciliation
Map one maintenance job’s assignment, arrival and completion states; use historical or synthetic records to detect disagreements between systems.
Human takeover drill
In a supervised non-hazardous simulation, test who owns a task when an automation stops and whether a worker can safely reject a handoff.
Questions to answer
- Does the system reduce lost or duplicated assignments under real connectivity and shift changes?
- Can the responsible operator recover an interrupted job without relying on information only the automation holds?
